I think it is a matter of personal preference. Both types have their good
points and bad points. The baffeling for an open system like most use is
harder to fabricate and seal against the engine. It takes a lot of fitting
to get it right. The plenum type is a form fit using foam as a mold and
fiberglassing the plenum thus a good tight custom fit. The open type allows
uniform air to pass over and through the engine heads as there is only one
big chamber on top of the engine. The plenum type could possibly have
different cooling effects on each side of the engine since they are
independent of each other. Both types have proven to work well so like I
said, it is more of a personal preference than anything.
