Looks like another gem gleaned off the KRNet. I have been looking for film
for LCDs for a while just to keep them from getting scratched up. I have
been wanting to do my GPS, XM radio, cell phone, MP3 player, my son's
Gameboy, and some other items. The anti-glare is an added bonus. I assume
this stuff has some kind of peel off backing and sticks on the LCD? Does it
remove easily to change it when it gets scratched up?

Subject: KR> anti-glare stuff for GPS

NetHeads,

I recently bought a Lowrance Airmap 1000. It's a great unit, but I was
disappointed in the visibility of screen in my open cockpit KR2S under full
sunlight (it's great when it's cloudy). The screen is the usual LCD black
on silver background, but the plastic that covers the display is polished to
a high gloss (which makes no sense to me), causing reflections of everything
inside the cockpit to make it very difficult to see past this "mirror". I
started looking for anti-glare stuff, and finally found the stuff below.
They make "custom fit" anti-glare plastic sheets for various PDAs, iPods,
and a few GPSs, but I had to order this expensive sheet and cut it down to
get one big enough for the Airmap 1000's screen. So if you have a similar
problem, this stuff works! This large sheet is not on their website, so you
have to call to order it. Make sure you say "anti-glare", because they have
two versions of it.

I flew with it today and it really solved the problem! I don't understand
why Lowrance wouldn't just sell it with a dull screen to start with. No
idea why anybody would want a glossy screen when it creates that kind of
glare problem.

The other thing that I miss about my Garmin is the icons that represent
airports. On the Garmin each airport is displayed with an icon that
clearly shows it's runway orientation, an imitation of the way airports are
displayed on a sectional. On the Airmap, all the runways look like they
run north and south. Maybe they can be talked into improving that, because
that comes in handy on windy days when you need to stop for fuel and don't
want to search through a bunch of "nearby" airports to find one that's
oriented into the wind...
