When I bought the Imron and an epoxy zinc chromate primer for my Stang the
guy at the Dupont store said that the primer would absorb moisture if I
waited a while before painting over it. He said to give it a blush coat
after priming and to sand that off when I was ready to put on the color
coat. He gave me a spray can of Krylon to use as the blush coat. I decided
to just prime it right before painting so I have no idea how easily it would
have been to sand off the spray paint, but that might be worth trying.
Might give you a fairly good looking paint job and protect your primer at
the same time.

Then again, you might just have so much fun flying that you just keep it
spray painted with Krylon forever. Sure would make touch ups easy.

Bobby,
This is the other Mark chiming in here. I too primed my plane with
MarHyde Ultimate 2K as Langford did so I could fly and paint later. The
only difference is that Langford actually painted the bottom of his
plane red prior to his flying, I did not. I will testify that after 70
flight hours, the 2K primer did absorb some oil but it was only on the
top layer. Once I had cleaned the surface real good, I then sanded the
primer to remove the absorbed oil. This was time consuming as the gummy
oil primer would clog the sand paper. Once I got below that top skin of
oil impregnated primer all was ok.

Mark, Has it been pretty oil proof so far?
