It's been done at least once, on Dean Selby's plane, and I'm sure there are a lot more under construction. That's essentially what the "AS5048/45" is, described at http://www.krnet.org/as504x/as5046inst.html . The only version of these airfoils that is NOT recommended is a pure 48% AS5048 that doesn't transition to a thinner airfoil at the tip.
