I read another book which explained a similar set of facts where it is fact that a chemical produces less in BTU's yet more power when used as an auto fuel. Propane and Natural Gas are examples of this as well as alcohol. Alternative Fuel Cars Alcohol fuels contain more power, but less energy, in a gallon than petrol. That means that it'll make you're car go faster, but you'll get less MPG. ... http://www.collingwood.sutton.sch.uk/Energy%20Saving/ESNoCars3.htm - 14k - similar pages - add to favorites
The fact is that alcohol makes MORE power, but does so with more fuel required. As I posted earlier, this is due to the oxygen that is inherent in the makeup of alcohol, especially as I understand it, methanol, which is used in racing alone, or spiked with Nitro for the Top Fuel Dragsters and Top Fuel Funny Cars. These cars produce over 15,000 horsepower now as reported by TNN Motorsports. No 100 octane engine can get close to that without adding Nitrous Oxide, even with a supercharger. It is also my understanding that below a certain percentage, the fuel makers do not have to tell you that the fuel has alcohol in it, only above that percentage. This I would have to check on, but was the case at one time. There have been many tech articles written on the subjects about repair associated with alcohol in fuel.
