There 2 ways of doing this that I know of.  You can use the 5/8" longerons 
and the outside one should have a scarf at least 12" into the area where you 
double up through the cabin area.  Or you can do as I did.  I went to the 
local lumber store and bought one 2 x 6 DF Clear.  That means with 
absollutely no knotts in the stick any where.  I cut each one 1 1/8" sq. 
Then when I was past the cabin area where the plans called for the doubler 
to be tapered and brought to an end.  I just cut two sides of the longerons 
on the table saw and then I used a ban saw and cut a taper into the cuts 
that I made.  Then you would have only one longeron on ea. side and then 
they both will be absent of any glue joint in the area of the doubled area.

I'm sure that someone will have another idea that you may like even more
