I replaced the whole wire with an MS spec wire that I fished out of the dumpster outside our electronics shop at Teledyne Brown Engineering. I grounded the end nearest the EIS and left the other one ungrounded. I cut the braid off short and shrink tubed it in place on the coil end, to make sure that the braid could never ground the coil. That's one of those things that could ruin your day if it never occured to you that it could happen...
