SOP for a VW engine.  You will need to adjust the valves at least every 25
hours.  I used to do it almost every time I had the cowling off.  On the 
old
Beetle, you would adjust the valves every oil change.  If you do the
adjustment properly and often, you will not have any problems with them. 
However, hydraulics do sound nice, but I remember hearing some negative
stuff about them, but your results will vary.
