Dan, I had to put a recess in my wing tanks also. I just made the recess
diameter 1/8 inch bigger than I needed, installed the gasket with no sealer
then poured a little jeffco tank sealer around the probe mount. I hauled these
tanks around in the back of an old van full of fuel for a couple of weeks to
test for leaks. Missouri has the worst roads in the nation so I considered this
a good test. So far no leaks.

When putting the fuel probe in the tank, do you use gasket sealer or just
the gasket. The probe seller man said to use sealer and I did. It was
Locktite sealer and it just gooed all over and leaked. Other than that, the
  fuel gauge is working now.
