Dan I made a simple recess box by glassing over the end of a box large enough to hold the sender base and that is all, then cut the hole just large enough to allow the sender "box" to be pressed into the tank and floxed into place, after having cut open for the sender/float assembly and drilling for the mounting screws. Floxed into tank top, then mounted sender, then floxed cut out piece back into place, with small channel dremelled out for the wires to the firewall, and on to the gauge.
