Today I received my re-pitched prop from Ed Sterba. I eagerly went to the
airport and installed the prop and took to the skies. The prop was a 56x64 and
is now a 54x54. I have been running a three blade 52" diameter Warp Drive set
at 48" pitch for the last eight hours of flight. Well today, I made a two hour
flight with the re-pitched prod. To make a long story short, the performance
numbers are basically the same with all three props I have tried. My conclusion
is that I get 1100" climb at 100 mph and 2950 rpm. I get a cruise of 130 mph at
level wide open throttle of 2950 rpm. My conclusion is that my carb is robbing
me of power which this engine is capable of producing. Plain and simple,
regardless of prop, I can only get 2950 max rpm in level WOT flight. The plane
flies great but I really want that extra power I am being robbed of. I must get
an Ellison EFS-3A and sell my Ellison EFS-2 which is actually rated for engines
up to 85 HP. I still will fly the EFS-2 until I can replace it with the EFS-3A.
I am having a blast flying this KR. I love landing the KR now that I have
gotten the hang of it. Also, today I was taxiing to the pumps and there was a
Cessna ahead of me. I pulled up and sat in the plane while two older gentlemen
exited the spam can. One of the guys started over towards me and the first
words out of his mouth were "when are you going to get a real airplane". Mind
you, I did not know these gentlemen and I replied to him, "I have a real
airplane". After the pilot finished fueling he approached and asked if that was
a KR. Then the next thing he asked was "what engine is that? It sure sounds
great!" With that, the conversation turned towards that pilot really talking up
the KRvaircraft and his passenger basically not saying anything else. So far
this plane has turned every head it has passed while on the ground. It is like
a sexy lady. Men just can't take their eyes off of it. Gotta love it.....
