Netters, Brian is correct about the Garmin MAP296 that I bought. When I first started trying to use is I was very frustrated because of the various features being hard to figure out how to use and the owners manual leaves much to be desired. However, I got an instructional DVD that is very good and I have learned the basic navigational part plus a lot of other things as a result of playing the disk over and over again. When you are my age (76) learning comes a little harder than it did forty years ago. I would however advise the following. There are a lot of features on the Garmin MAP296 that most pilots will never use because the same information is on a current sectional and in order to keep the GPS current the owner is required to download changes from a computer to the GPS and Garmin charges for this service. If you want to use a GPS for navigation, buy a cheaper one without all of the features that you will never use anyway. If any of you have a Garmin MAP296 and would like to have a copy of the DVD, send me a blank disk and I will make a copy and send it to you providing you include postage for the return of the disk. There is no copyright prohibition on the DVD so it's legal to make copies.
