For those that are using the original Lowrance Airmap or Airmap 300, the
database PROMs are no longer available. If you call Lowrance with the
serial number off your unit, they will have you ship it to them and will
issue you a letter of credit; $100 towards the Airmap 500, $175 towards
the Airmap 1000 or $225 towards the Airmap 2000c. I found where I could
get the Airmap 2000c on line for $875, then put the $225 against that, so
got the new color unit for $650. This summer the Airmap 2000c will have
a terrain awareness upgrade available as a $200 upgrade. Since I do fly
in the mountains and at night fairly regularly, it's a no brainer
purchase for me.

The new Lowrance units use an industry standard flash prom so the OS and
database upgrades can be downloaded via the internet and easily
installed. I upgraded the OS and database on mine last night. OS was
free. Jepp database was $35.
