Yea you read that sorta right.  Anything that creates
lift creates induced drag.  It's tough to say if it's
a good thing to have a lifting body or not because as
always, it depends on the application...

Even nice fairings, like wheel pants and stuff create
some lift (sometimes) and thus, drag, but for the most
part the parasitic and induced drag from the fairing
is less than the parasitic drag if you left them
off...  

It's all relative :-)
