Hello, my name is Matt. I have been interested in buying a KR-2S for some time now. I have been a private pilot for almost 8 years now. I've read about everything I could find on the net and looked at all of the pictures I could find. I still have some questions though.
First off, what is the average build time on this plane? It's not a major concern of mine, I'm just curious. Can it be built in a two car garage? Do I need a lot of special tools to build it? What is the average cost once it's all said and done? Plane, engine, avionics, this and that etc. I would like to build it for under $20K. I have read that people have used different airfoils on this plane. Where do you find these airfoils? Does the manufacturer sell them as an option? Basically, I like a lot of things about the KR. It appears to be a relatively low maintenance project. I know there are a lot of people that have them and love to fly them. I also like the cruise speeds I hear about. I would like to be able to do a little cross country while cruising over 150 mph. Range isn't too important. How hard are the wings to detach? I really don't want to rent a hangar. I would buy a big shed or just keep it in my garage if it were practical. My wife and I are both 6'1". I'm about 200 pounds and she's about 160. How would we fit? Finally, is this a mostly wooden airplane? Is there a lot of composite work? I've never worked with composites, but I'm certainly willing to learn. I've built more radio controlled airplanes than I can count. How does building a full size compare to an RC other than size? Also, how is this thing to fly compared to Cessna 172's? That's all I have ever really flown. I've never flown a taildragger, but I love the looks of a KR that's set up as a taildragger. If anybody has any answers or advice for me, please let me know! Thanks! Matt Fulks in OKC
