Here was my idea for the flap handle or speed brake handle assy. I used a
VW emergency brake handle that I welded a 18"pipe to (at the pivot/bearing
area) . I then made up two support brakets that are triangle shaped with a
stud welded to them at the apex that fit the pipe I.D. These are the hinges
for
the tube. I located one of the triangles up against the side of the fuse so
the handle was near my left leg. The other triangle is attacked to the fuse
floor. I then located the center of the floor and marked that corresponding
mark on the tube and welded on a simple arm. There is a pushrod (two 3/16
bolts welded together with rod ends on the end) from the end of that arm,
through the floor to the speed brake. The ratchet mechanism of the handle has
to
remain stationary for the handle to work so I have a small piece of metal
welded to the left triangle support that hold that mechanism in place. It is
easier to build than explain.... I believe there are some picture of it on
Buyeas web page about the Gathering. I will try to get some good pics soon
or a drawing. The nice thing about it was that I made it and installed it in
less than two hours and it didn't cost a dime compared to 160.00 for a linear
actuator. It work great and you can physically feel the pressures against
it when operating it. It really helps contol descent and reduce float on
landings. Love that speed brake! Bill
