I don't know where the sell the lower cost ones, but I have been eyeing up one at Enco (www.use-enco.com). They have a Mitutoyo that is accurate to .1 degree for $139.00.
I also have an Alba AcuAngle that is oil damped, has a vernier scale, and is accurate to .1 degree that you can borrow.
