I have to say this was a lot of fun. I actually was selected to lead the parade which was to be single file, however, Richard (KR-1) was on my left wing, Steve was on my right wing, Marti decided to parallel Steve off of Steve's right wing and I guess the rest followed in flight. The interesting part was what we had to MISS. We came across the parade at a 90 degree angle missing a tower to the north. The people on the ground thought, according to a person at the parade, that that pass was the end. However, I went on east and made a gentle turn north, then a gentle turn west and then another gentle turn south lining up on the parade route just like we were on final. About half way through the parade we had to miss a tower on our right and a flag pole on top of a building on our left. I was calling these out and the rest of the pack did a great job of listening instead of talking. We went right down the parade route about 500' agl and it was pretty cool. When we got back to home, we separated out with better separation and then made passes for the video. I only wish we would have made the pass over the airport back at Mt Vernon before we did the video shoot. Oh well, that will be for next year. Word has it that the solo performer, Marti, went back and provided a little closer look at his plane for the crowd. I'm sure he was at 50 0 agl...... Right!
Great Gathering, Great Reunion, Great Planes, Great Weather, Great Flying, and Great Friends. Hope to see everyone next year with 30 planes and 250 people. Last Saturday there was a parade down Main Street of Wayne City Ill., 25 miles east of the KR Gathering. It seems that 9 airplanes decided to join that parade with a single file high speed pass. The local onlookers loved it!!!
