I can't understand what all the fuss is about !! It's just a case of using basic hand tools. Go back to basics and mark out all of your spar dimensions and get a good quality hand plane. You'll be surprised how quickly the excess material can be planed away, and accurately too. That's how all of mine were done and they are perfect.
