I laminated my forward center spar caps today. They are currently clamped and drying on a plastic tarp laid out on my living room carpet because it is 91 degrees in Florida today. My wife wasn't too happy about that one when she got home. I can't wait to see her reaction when I start sanding in the living room in August!
I found out that the flat countertop idea wouldn't work. I loaded one up on the cart at Lowes yesterday and saw that every one had about a 2" bow in it. It would have been too much work to shim it up and get it straight so I broke down and bought a 25' piece of 4" aluminum channel from the local distributor. It is perfect for laminating the caps. I will bolt two 10' pieces together for an 8" wide surface when I am building the rest of the spar. If anyone within driving distance of Jacksonville needs them when I am done let me know. $140 for a piece of channel is a lot of money to use it only once.
