Dan: I can see no reason you cannot use the lower bellhousing bolt holes for
your front mount points. Reversing the engine front to back doesn't mean
keeping the bellhousing. The only purpose it serves in our application is a
mounting point for the starter and any machine shop with any competence
whatsoever can whip up a new mount front aluminum plate to bolt right up.
Without the bellhousing you have just eliminated any cowl clearance
problems. Orma Robbins or R.S. Hoover seem to have the most experience with
the VW so perhaps they can correct me if wrong.
