I had some coke in my 1835 Hapi turbo also.  I think it was caused by not
having a scavenger oil pump [it was gravity drained]. Anyway, I had it
overhauled and they told me the seal plate was on backwards. Apparently the
previous owner tied to inspect it and reassembled it wrong. That may have
had something to do with the coke buildup also.
I had a diesel mechanic overhaul the turbo they do that kind of work
routinely.
