Yes

Yes, in fact, they run 500 hp sand drag engines using stock rods.  Until
recently, nobody even MADE aftermarket rods, because the stockers hold up so
well.  Nobody makes an aftermarket crank either, for the same reason.  They
are bulletproof.  102's and earlier had somewhat weaker rods, but still no
real problems.

I guess so.  What most people complain about that once owned Corvairs is the
oil leakage.  That can be remedied with Viton seals and careful attention to
detail.  There's an entire book devoted to the subject, and it apparently
works.
