HI Guys

In regards to an extra 25hp I have flown a kr2S with 65hp engine direct
drive with 2 people and fuel it climbed out at 60kts with the best rate of
climb about 400ft/per minute I found that the take off run was a bit to long
and on a short strip (grass) I wanted more power as I would not like to get
in trouble on a hot day here in queensland it will get to 42 degrees celsius
and performance changes quite considerably the strips I have used in the
past are in some cases only 800 metres long so it does not give u much room
for error or misjudgement most have rather large gum trees at the end too!!!
I look at a variety of engines the 0200 is a great engine but a very
expensive one to work on
I priced to zero time an engine I was given fixed price's of over $25 000
aus
I wanted 100hp plus for the strips I will use and some more performance I
have seen an rg2200 efi run it was on the back of a trayback ute and the
tray was bending it had from memory a 66X60 pitch it was 3 blade too it was
only run up to 2900rpm as it was being run in but was not shown any sign of
even loading up at this stage it has an enomous amout of torque and has fuel
injection which also helps but I will get better fuel consumption and
overall perfomance than the 0200 and will only cost me about 3000 dollars
aus to zero time if I am out in the austrailian outback and for instance and
I need some engine part the local auto shop will probably have the part the
0200 I will have to wait!
At the end of the day I would love to have a lancair 4 but I am too a poor
pilot who wants to fly so I have to look at what will be the best on my
wallet but also the safety side ways heavily!!!

Here in australia the jabiru 80 hp is a very popular engine but it is a
direct drive with a carbie it is light and reliable but for not a lot more I
have got 110hp+ fuel injection and the reduction drive look at the rotax
engines they have a reduction drive and go very well. I was also impressed
with the workmanship on the engine!
I understand that u can get a engine for cheaper and that is good but I have
spent a lot of time and money just to build the plane I would hate to run
off the end of the strip or clip a gum tree on take off on a hot day so it
does become a balance of what risk u are prepared to take!
Cheers
