If I were in your place, and I was, I would convert it to a fixed gear using
the Grove type. All you have to do is take out the retract, patch the holes
and put a small hole in the fuselage that you cover over when you fair in
the gear bar. It makes a very neat installation.

I ground looped mine also, several times, and would have suffered no damage
on any of those loops, had I had the right size tires on the Goodyear wheels
 The only damage that I did suffer was to the wheels outside rim.

Dump the retract, whatever you do.
