Gavin, 4130 will rust so it will need to be protected. The nose strut that Diehl sells is 4130 heat treated tubing. The drawings that I got with mine did not have the precise measurements, so I put a tape measure on it and it's 1.25" tubing and looks to be about 3/32 thick (0.09375"). I hope this helps.
