Netters,
I know the KR PIC personally and the preflight information, preparation for the
flight, and so forth had nothing to do with the outcome of this flight. This
is just an unfortunate accident, hence the term, and his aircraft will be
sorely missed. It is truly a blessing that he nor his passenger were seriously
hurt. He has privately assured me of his continued commitment to flying and
that he intends to re-join the ranks of KR owners as soon as possible.
It is a bad mis-understanding by the public and some of the flying public
that not filing a flight plan, nor getting a weather briefing is a bad thing.
A local flight, according to the FAA any flight within 50nm of the departure
airport, does not require the preparation required in FAR 91.103 I encourage
all pilots to speak to a briefer in today's airspace due to the activation of
TFRs, and other accommodations that can change hourly.
The KR is a wonderful aircraft. But it like any aircraft must be respected
and flown within limits. These limits can be imposed by the conditions of the
flight, the aircraft itself, or the pilot. Please be careful; I hate reading
those things....
