Netters;

The stall characteristics of the new AS50xx-series airfoils were documented
in the development of the airfoil, based on the airfoil analysis and the
wind tunnel testing. In addition to the technical development work, an
article was prepared and published in Contact! magazine about the
development of the airfoil and its characteristics compared to other popular
airfoils. The airfoil was tested in the air on a representative KR2 by Troy
Petteway, who found the performance to be as predicted.

There is a simple plot of lift coefficient of the RAF48, AS5045, and 23012
at http://flysquirrel.net/CLplot01.JPG and the 23012's plot (the heavy
dashed line) shows why the Bonanza goes radical when the wing runs out of
lift... the Cl looks like the peak of the Matterhorn at the top. Not to
criticize the Bonanza here, but rather to explain what the AS50xx-series
development was looking for (and found).
