The tube is 6.5" away from the firewall on mine, as shown at
http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/corvair/mount_fit.html .  It's also right
at 6.5" above the bottom of the firewall, when the plane is level.  This
gives you a thrust line that is about 2.38" below the top of the longeron.
In this setup, the fuel pump barely clears the top of the cowling, and you
might end up needing some "nostrils" to clear the intakes, unless you do
something heroic with a welder like I did at
http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/corvair/intake.html .  I wouldn't really
recommend it though, as it locks you in to one intake system forever.  And
it was pointed out to me that if I ever get stuck at a foreign airport, I'll
have to have a mill and a TIG welder (rather than just a replacement head)
to get home, but then I have that problem anyway, since mine's a 3100cc
engine with bored heads and case...
