I had a very similar problem with a Zenith on the 1835 on my first KR. I
was coming back from a short cross country trip when the engine started
running rough. I gave it full throttle and the roughness went away. I
pulled back and it started again. I didn't have carb heat at the time. I
pushed in full throttle and the roughness went away again. I flew it all
the way back at full throttle. I pulled the Zenith and put on carb heat. I
never ran that carb again. I definitely attributed it to icing.

If it runs with a little carb heat, give it some carb heat.
