Justin, Douglas Fir is heavier than Spruce. I think otherwise it is OK. I don't think I would run down to Home Depot for some 2x4's however.
Your best bet for Spruce is Aircraft Spruce, or Wicks Aircraft. There are two other vendors, one is in Colorado which I had quote spruce for me back in '88. I think it was Penrose Aerodome, but it has been a long time. Their prices seemed very competitive, but they wrote out the quote on paper and pencil. If you can find a good tech counselor who knows wood, they can help you find and select your own wood. You don't want any knots or voids/pitch pockets in the wood for a spar. Hemlock is another alternative. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Justin" <jmw...@socal.rr.com> List-Post: krnet@list.krnet.org Date: Sat, 23 Aug 2003 23:55:18 -0500 To: <kr...@mylist.net> Subject: KR>firewall and spar question > I was looking over the plans and for the firewall forward deck I have a > slight confusion.
