Also note that Dean has several spruce stringers connecting main spar to firewall area. Even if this method were as strong, and even though Dean's was maybe 10-15 pounds lighter than the stocker, there's no arguing that it'll take you a whole lot longer to build one this way. The curved bottom is almost entirely aesthetic, not aerodynamic. I guess it all depends on whether you want a unique airplane that takes longer to build, or a proven design that gets you in the air sooner. I can't believe I said that...
