Eric,

No matter what kind of distributor you use, you'll want about 28 degrees of
total advance at 2500 rpm or above.  That means you'll either need an
"advancing" timing light (one that has a knob with degrees on it which you'd
set at 28 degrees and then line up the TDC mark with the case split) or a
degreed pulley or some other way of knowing where 28 degrees is on the
crank.

As to what RPM you'll get, I don't think you have a choice.  You'll get
whatever the engine can pull...
