Justin, You are "right on". Don't discount Carbon as one of your materials, because it does have practical uses. I had once thought that I would use it in the area of the aileron to keep it streight. That did not work, but it might be worth it for weight savings on the aileron, because then you would also save weight on the balance.
Also, I don't think you can get seats, such as the ones we, and Mark L have made, to be strong enough without using a lot of regular glass, while carbon is strong enough with one layer on each side.
