Well, I sent one an hour ago, repying-to one of Dan's many messages that
didn't make it to the list. This time I'm replying-to Larry's that DID make
it, so that may be the ticket. Either way, it looks like I have one more
thing to do today. I know you guys are tired of this, but I may just bring
the old kr...@mailinglists.com back up and subscribe everybody on this list
to that one, if I can. I have about 10 messages already that I was cc'd on
from Dan, Ed, and others, that made it to me, but not to the list. Houston,
we have a problem here.

Just in case this one makes it, I'll cut and paste it below:

I've looked for the perfect mufflers for my Corvair engine for months, but
everything I find is big, heavy, and expensive. Just for kicks, I thought
I'd check out stock VW air-cooled Beetle tailpipes. They fit my 1.5"
stainless exhaust tubing perfectly with their 1.375" outside diameter (I
might not ever get them out though), merely act as a chrome-plated exhaust
extension, weigh 9 ounces each, and cost $2.75 a piece!

Although they will not be tested for performance until later on this summer,
right now I have no doubt that these will quieten the engine considerably,
while also protecting the bottom of the plane (NACA ducts) during extended
ground-run testing. There's a photo at
http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/corvair/03052321m.jpg . Note the zillion
wires to the left, which are instrumentation for the Engine Information
System, which is now outdated by a new and improved system, but will still
work nicely for what I need.

Today I'm working on the aluminum intake system and trying to finish up the
dual stick setup. That and a new puppy, a funeral, and a softball game
with the 8 year-olds...
