A mesage from William Wynne and Grace,
Subject: Thank you for Corvair College #4 If you can, we'd like to have this distributed to the various lists: CorvairCraft, Piet, Q, Dragonfly, KR, etc. If each of you could please post this to your respective lists, we'd greatly appreciate it. Friends, Grace Ellen and I would like to publicly say thank you to all the Corvair engine builders we saw at Sun 'N Fun. In ways large and small, everyone contributed to making it a very memorable event. It was a very busy week, combining our Sun 'N Fun weeklong volunteering in the Engine Workshop and Fourms Area with Corvair College #4. The very popular motto emblazoned on the T-shirts "I got my crank polished at Corvair College," brought out a lot of smiles. Thanks to the Warren family for getting the shirts done on short notice. Fran and Dave Stroud did a wonderful job with the barbecue. It was a nice surprise to meet the two Clares there. Pat Panzera manned the Contact! magazine booth with our engine in it all week. Stu Hall and Kevin Bishop both volunteered in other areas of the Fly-In, and still went out of their way to help us out. Our regular gang of Gus Warren, Merrill Isaacson, Stewart Cirk and Dave Vargesko graciously took the time to answer literally thousands of questions during the week. Merrill and Dave's motors were both displayed and running during the week. My Saturday and Sunday forums were well attended. Many people stopped by to say my motivational speech on Saturday morning was a pure classic - I attribute it to having seven cups of coffee for breakfast. It was a pleasant surprise to see Mark Jones and family at the Saturday forum. Sunday's forum was even attended by Dave Martin, editor of Kit Planes magazine. Thanks to Corvair/601 builder Neil Hulin, his interview with me on Corvair conversions was aired over Sun 'N Fun AM Radio 1510 several times. Visitors direct from Oshkosh included Doc Mosher and my boss at EAA publications Mary Jones. Certainly the surprise guest of honor was Andrew Pietenpol, grandson of Bernie Pietenpol. We got a chance to spend some quality time talking about his family's legacy. The quote of the week winner is my old friend and Embry Riddle roommate Chris Welsh, who overindulged on Margaritas, followed by large quantities of unknown liquids at the Ultralight Party. "Tomorrow is a harsh mistress," he said as he fell asleep alone in the back of Gary's pickup truck. We took a lot of pictures, and we'll post them on the flycorvair.com News from The Corvair Authority page during the weekend. The new issue of The Corvair Flyer newsletter, with the whole story on Sun 'N Fun, will be mailed out next week. We received more than 200 e-mails while we were camped out on the airport, and will knock them out as quickly as we can now that we're back. Thank you for being patient. This week marks the eighth year that I've been commercially promoting the Corvair engine conversion. In all this time, certainly the best thing about it has been the friends we've made along the way. I'd like to thank each and every one of you and say we're looking forward to this flying season and seeing all of our friends this year. Thank you.
