There was some talk about me giving a presentation on how to prepare for off-field landings at the Gathering, but I think it was OBE'd (overcome by events) by more meaningful presentations, so there's no real slot for this, other than the campfire.
So in leu of that, please see the recent AVweb article at http://www.avweb.com/news/features/Precautionary-Landings-Before-Its-Too-Late-226869-1.html , for some points on how to manage a successful off-field landing...even if it's in a bean field! That works too! Most important thing is to practice power-off landings...pull the power back to idle 8 miles out and see if you can make a decent landing. The more of this you do, the better prepared you'll be when the big fan up front quits. You know what they say...the fan keeps the pilot cool! Given that we el-cheapo KR pilots gravitate toward cheap automotive-based "alternative" engines, practicing is a worthwhile effort... -- Mark Langford ML at N56ML.com http://www.n56ml.com
