Tommy, I had a set which showed the same compression issue and had cracks. I had them reconditioned by a local engine shop. They said the cracks we common in VW heads and not a huge issue. They only lasted another 100 hours before the compression dropped again and I had them replaced with new. Engine was still running fine, but they were losing a few rpm at full throttle, which was a little uncomfortable.
Probably best just to get a new set.
