Steve, I have a KR-2 built to plans except I used the Diehl wing skins. These use the RAF48 airfoil. The total wing span is 23 feet 6 inches. Using the wing skins, the front and rear wood spars are extended using the 16-inch fiberglass spar sandwich in the Diehl kit; this is the same material used for the ribs. The Diehl wing skins are a sandwich with inner and outer layers of 2 BID on a foam core. I have talked with other builders that have used the Diehl skins and not used the spar extensions; they just use the rather stiff skin as a monocoque stressed skin. The Diehl skins extend the horizontal stabilizer and elevator span 3-inches each side for an increase of 6 inches more than the KR-2 plans. I do not know if the airframe is de-rated for maximum plus or minus G's due to the increased span. My personal limits are +2 g and minus 0 g. Your results may vary.
Sid Wood Tri-gear KR-2 N6242 Mechanicsville, MD, USA --------------------------------------------------------- ? I'm new to the KR scene, having acquired a stock KR2 a few months back, that about 90% completed. I'm looking to make a few modifications, such as increasing the length of the horizontal stabilizer for better pitch control and?extending the wings to?decrease the stall?speed, to meet the Sports Pilot requirements.??I've?read?comments in the archives about extending the wings, but I haven't found any specific?information on the correct way of doing this. Since my wings are already built (RAF48), do I extend?both wing?spars or is it possible to add additional foam to the existing wing?end and?shape to form?? Also, how much further?do the wings need to be extended? I'd be interested in hearing from any of you who know or?have done this. Steve
