There can be a time in any KR person's life when you have to make do with
something else temporarily while the KR is either not finished or because
it needs some time-consuming repairs. Even Mark, when he had his forced
landing leaving his dad's farm with his KR, bit the bullet and bought a
Swift, a Pober Pixie, a Waco look-alike, at least one Ercoupe and that
Tri-Pacer Flesner sold him . . . plus that plane with the pusher
propeller I can never remember the name of. SeaBee?

So buying something else to fly "in the meantime" is not unusual in the
KR world.

With that in mind, I want to mention a Cavalier that my friend Doug is
selling. Doug is in his mid-80's and old age has caught up with him
practically overnight. It was a hip fracture that started the ball
rolling and it's been downhill ever since. Doug isn't going to be flying
anymore and would like to find a good home for his Cavalier. He's asking
11.5 but that's negociable. He's got other things on his mind these days
than trying to sell his plane for what it ought to sell for. Doug is a
retired Navy officer and has meticulously kept up this plane both with
maintenance and records. He's owned it 28 years. The same A&P has done
the condition inspections all those years. Doug bought it in L.A. in
1987 with 200 hours on the airframe and the Franklin 0-235. Both now
have 1200 hours since new. It's got a vacuum system and an artificial
horizon and the full complement of standard instruments, both flight and
engine. It would need to be certified with some system checks but this
is an IFR capable airplane. Transponder and encoder of course. It's got
panel lights, strobes, position lights, beacon, and two comfortable seats
in a roomy cockpit. It cruises at 135 MPH burning 5 gallons per hour and
carries 27 gallons total in two tanks. It starts instantly after two
strokes of the throttle and runs smooth as silk. Really, it does.

Most of us are not familiar with Cavaliers so please do what I've done
and do a Google search for "Cavalier Aircraft" and you'll hit a Google
Group full of history, pictures, specs, and all sorts of information
regarding the design. Essentially it is an improved version of a French
certificated aircraft called the GY-20 Minicab. They are a lot more well
known in Europe, the UK, Canada & the down under countries than they are
here although there is one on the cover of Sport Aviation October '76
when it won Grand Champion at Oshkosh. Picture of that one is attached.

Doug's hangar is down the row from me and Sparky here at Gillespie. I've
offered to help Doug sell his plane since he has somehow managed to get
this far in life without a computer and it's pretty hard to sell anything
these days without one. Plus, he's hard of hearing and his mind is on
other things just now. It would be nice to find the plane a new home and
also nice for Doug & his wife to get out from under the $355/mo hangar
rent. I've offered to deliver the plane wherever the new owner wants it
and they don't need to pay until it is sitting safely in their hangar.

This airplane is a very capable flying machine that is being sold really
cheap. It doesn't need anything. It's ready to fly. I've been asked
about parts availability for the Franklin and since I'm no expert all I
tell people is that Stinsons, Bellancas, Sikorskys and a whole bunch of
other planes came from the factory with them and there's a lot of those
planes and helicopters still flying, obviously with parts support from
somewhere. If you Google "Franklin engine parts" there are pages full of
suppliers that pop up so I'm guessing finding parts for this very highly
regarded engine is not all that difficult. It currently doesn't need
any.

We've got it on Barnstormers. If you search for Cavalier it'll pop right
up and was the only one there last time I looked. This is a really nice
airplane for not much money in case somebody needs something to fly "in
the meantime".
