At the mention of putting 46 pounds ballast in the engine compartment to get rid of the tail heavy and unstable condition, I have had several inquiries. I posted this info several months ago. Stu Robinson stated that the center of lift may be 2 inches further forward than it should be for the RAF-48 airfoil on the KR-2. That prompted the development of a new airfoil and the KR-2S supplement. My flight observations with several ballast installations along with numerous weight and balance measurements confirms Stu's statement. Setting the wing back 2 inches on my KR-2 would likely cure the problem, but that is not practical now. Working the W&B spread sheet, I came up with 46 pounds at the engine location. These are 11 separate weights mounted at as many different locations. (Using a Corvair instead of the present 2180 VW could be a solution also.)
Just to throw a little more fuel on the fire, Is there anyone now still wanting to build a KR-2 instead of a KR-2S? Sid Wood Tri-gear KR-2 N6242 Mechanicsville, MD, USA
