I think that's because it's mounted below your engine.  Heat from the
engine is forced/drawn into the low pressure side.  Up on top, my Ellison
gets a steady stream of fresh intake air and I've never had any problem
with vapor lock or hot starting.   

I've also never had carb icing even though I've spent plenty of time in
conditions conducive to it.  I have carb heat but have used it only very
occasionally as a precaution and to help with fuel vaporization on cold
winter days.  I think I learned about that from one of your postings.
