Thanks for mentioning this. My October issue of Flying was on the kitchen table and I had not opened it.
For those who don't have a subscription to Flying this KR-2 article will show up here, but probably not until the November issue comes out. http://www.flyingmag.com/results/aftermath Peter Garrison alone is worth a subscription to Flying. He writes the Aftermath and Technicalities columns and has bonafides in the homebuilder community that go back to before 1968 when he began work on Melmoth, his own design which took ideas from Thorpe and Pazmany. He and the Rutans were pals in those days and although he doesn't mention it in this article on the KR-2 crash, I have no doubt that he knew Ken Rand and was aware of the KR designs from the beginning. The LA basin is a small world when it comes to aviation and was even smaller in the 60's and 70's. Garrison flew Melmoth on trips all around the world (and wrote about them in Flying) until some moron in a 172 landed on top of him while waiting to take off at John Wayne (SNA). He wasn't hurt but Melmoth was destroyed. He then built Melmoth II which he keeps at Whiteman (WHP). Here is an excellent example of Garrison's writing: http://www.flyingmag.com/technique/proficiency/importance-being-lost Mike KSEE ____________________________________________________________ The #1 Worst Carb Ever?
