I was going to measure it for you this weekend, but it turns out both are 
covered at http://www.n56ml.com/kcontrol.html ...1/4" OD for the internal 
one, and .75" for the other.  At the time I built my dual stick setup, I 
thought .75" seemed "about right" to me on the one from the stick torque 
tube to the bellcrank, but now that I know how little force  you can 
actually generate on the stick without ripping the wings off, I'd say 5/8" 
is fine.  I probably should have calculated it and realized that it would be 
some crazy number like 900 pounds of force, but at the time I had much 
bigger fish to fry than to get wrapped around that axle, and I'm still in 
that boat.

I don't think that last sentence qualifies as a mixed metaphor, but there 
are three of them twisted in there...
