You would be amazed at some of the ripples and puckers and non-confirmances
that boeing builds into planes that fly 3 times as fast...plus a rough
finish can actually reduce drag.  Make sure it is sound and basically the
right shape, control the cg and it will fly.  Pretty is secondary.
