The rack and pinion were off the shelf parts. I think I got them at
McMaster Carr, but possibly I had them left over from something else. I
have a lot of stuff like that around my shop. The pinion gear was on a
1/4" diameter shaft if I recall correctly and had a bearing on each end.
The housing was a block of aluminum with a rectangular slot milled in
it for the rack and bore for the bearing and shaft. The top cap was
aluminum and had the bearing for the other side of the shaft. The black
piece on the right end is steel and it clamps the housing of the mixture
control shaft.

The one thing I was never happy about with the setup was that there was
a packing and gland nut on the carb around the mixture screw that had to
be loose enough to let the shaft turn, but tight enough so it would not
leak. A much better setup would have been something with an O ring. It
seemed to work fine in the 40 something hours I used it, but it was not
going to last forever.

That was me. It was the rack and pinion thing that I was interested
in. What did you use for the rack and pinion parts? Were they off the
shelf or custom? I need to make something similar for my Mikuni SBN.
