Metal corrosion is often the result of galvanic activity between dissimilar metals. Carbon Fiber conducts electricity and acts like a metal. When carbon fiber and metal are in contact, galvanic action will cause the metal to corrode. Stainless steel is resistant to corrosion but not totally. Why take a chance - separate metal from carbon fiber - use a layer of fiberglass.
