I don't know if it's exactly the same problem (it's been a long time!), but I had a similar problem in exactly that area. You end up shortening or notching something to get a piece to fit, as I recall, but it works. It's stuff like this that start you to thinking it's "close enough for KR work", and before it's over, you'll be thinking you're a full-fledged aeronautical engineer!
