I know that this is NOT Gathering related and the email below is a little old but after hearing more than a few people discuss the topic I thought a note to the EAA might be worth a shot. I just replied to the email below this afternoon. Lousy over loaded in box.
The EAA guy has a phone number too so you may want to touch base with him as well. I know 2-5 percent is not much but hey ya gotta start some where. By the way I looks like Chino may be my first Gathering with what SHOULD be my new KR2. At least that is the goal. Hope all is well in South Carolina. We have discussed such a possibility, while also understanding that there are other showplane areas that also have similar situations. Our Homebuilt Aircraft Council, consisting of EAA-member builders from throughout the country, is also studying ways to reward those who bring their aircraft to Oshkosh. The devil is always in the details, of course, so we have to make sure that incorporating one idea doesn't lead to a row of other dilemmas. One thing I've learned over the years at Oshkosh is a person can't push over just one domino. <g> And the FAA's sudden charges for air traffic services this year has certainly added some tightness to the budgeting process. But your idea has merit and, with your permission, I'd like to push it forward for further consideration for future years. Please let me know if that's not OK or if you have any other questions. EAA is or was all about the experimental nature of aviation and the people who drive it. A small consideration for those who build and fly in and allow others to look at their aircraft as well as answer questions is not too much to ask. While a free ride in a golf cart and a patch is nice a souvenir discount coupon for 2-5% off admission would end up on my wall of collectable " stuff " Just a thought. Gary
