The FAA has somewhat unleashed the AMEs to approve things like hypertension, high cholerstoral, and similar maladies without the involvement of OK City. ?You still need the same documentation as previously, but now a number of things like this can be approved on the spot by your AME rather than sending your paperwork off to Oklahoma City and waiting for them to respond.
The current list of diseases the local AME can now approve without a Special Issuance follows: Arthritis Asthma Hepatitis C Hypertension Pre-diabetes Migraine headaches Chronic headaches Renal cancer Testicular cancer Prostate cancer Later in the year, they are also expecting to be able to approve the following without a Special Issuance.: Kidney stones Carotid artery stenosis Colitis Irritable bowel syndrome Colon cancer Bladder cancer Leukemia Hodgkin?s Disease Hodgkin?s Lymphoma More detailed reading on this subject written by an AME on the SuperCub.org forum at <http://www.supercub.org/forum/showthread.php?44885-Elimination-of-Special-Issuance-Your-AME-quot-Released-quot> -Jeff Scott Los Alamos, NM > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Bryce Guenther > Sent: 07/18/13 10:23 AM > To: KRnet at list.krnet.org > Subject: KR> FAA Medical new discretion by AME > > Good news for GA as recently as April medical conditions that would have > required a waiver or disqualification are now of the opinion of your local > AME and are now "under control" may allow med certification.
